A play within a play, FIRST REFUSAL begins with Mark’s new play – based on his last failed relationship - going into production.  Mark has repaired in the onstage relationship all the things he could not fix in real life.  During rehearsals, Mark finds himself quietly pursued by the actor portraying him but Mark is smitten with his character’s onstage love interest.  Chasing the obvious and ignoring the exceptional, Mark now struggles to make his life parallel the play he has written but soon discovers that life is sometimes a lousy dramaturg.
